Tokyo 64 (magazine ad) and Peace (packaging) were Japanese cigarette companies that used the Olympics to brand their cigarettes as respectable products of peace and excellence. Peace launched an Olympics promotional sweepstake where every consume would receive a ticket when buying a Peace cigarette pack. Winners would win 365 packs. Many other hygiene, cigarette, and gameshow companies used the Olympics as targeted marketing. Consequentially, smoking prevalence and smoking-caused mortality increased during this promotional period.
